Follow one referral from click to conversion
Server-to-server tracking reports an event between systems rather than depending on a browser to load a conversion pixel at the final step. In a common affiliate flow, the tracking platform creates an identifier for a click. The advertiser retains that identifier and returns it when the agreed conversion occurs.
Everflow's S2S documentation describes this relationship using a transaction ID. The important practical question is whether the same identifier survives your own journey. Redirects, forms, checkout steps and integrations can all affect what is retained. Test the actual path visitors will use rather than a simplified demonstration page.
Define the event before connecting the systems
A registration and a paid subscription are different events even when they belong to the same customer. Decide which event is payable and which events exist only to help understand the funnel. Use names and statuses that the advertiser, publisher and platform operator interpret consistently.
Specify the attribution window, currency and time basis for reporting. If one team groups events by click date and another by conversion date, their daily totals can differ without either system being broken. Put these definitions in the launch brief so discrepancy reviews begin with comparable data.
Design for retries and duplicate requests
Networks fail, requests time out and integrations retry. Decide how a repeated notification will be recognized so one real conversion does not become two payable events. Also decide how a genuine second purchase should be distinguished from a duplicate of the first.
Use the platform's documented fields and supported event identifiers. Everflow provides an overview of postback configuration, but the exact endpoint and parameters must come from the account and campaign being integrated. Do not copy another advertiser's working URL into your setup or put credentials into publicly accessible code.
Test more than a successful purchase
Run an approved test with a valid click ID, then check the expected handling of a missing identifier, an invalid event and a repeated notification. Where cancellations or status changes are supported, confirm what the receiving report shows. Document the result and the people who reviewed it.
Check both sides of the exchange. A page that says thank you does not prove a tracking request was accepted, and a successful HTTP response does not always mean the commercial event has been approved. Inspect the platform record, status and identifiers before declaring the integration ready.
Keep the data and access proportionate
Transmit only the information required for the agreed tracking purpose. Avoid putting customer emails, telephone numbers or unnecessary personal details into referral links. Treat endpoint authentication and access credentials according to the platform's guidance, with access limited to the people maintaining the integration.
S2S tracking does not remove privacy responsibilities or make attribution perfect. It is one part of a campaign that still needs source approval, clear conversion terms and routine reconciliation. Review CPA and CPL event definitions and the publisher launch checklist before relying on the first production report.
